First single-drug approach anticoagulation therapy shown to be effective in treatment of DVT

Results of a significant Phase III EINSTEINDVT study, presented at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) today, confirmed that, for the first time since the introduction of warfarin 55 years ago,1 we have taken a step towards being able to potentially offer an oral single-drug approach as an alternative to traditional standard treatment [a combination of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) and warfarin] to patients with deep vein thombosis (DVT).

Bayer Schering Pharma (BSP) today announced that it is reducing the price of all doses of Levitra® (vardenafil) in the UK. Levitra® is a PDE-5 inhibitor, a class of oral treatments licensed to treat Erectile Dysfunction (ED).

Bayer Schering Pharma is pleased to announce that Avelox® IV (moxifloxacin HCl, solution for infusion) is now available in the UK for the treatment of Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) and complicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections (cSSSI) when antibacterial agents that are commonly recommended for the initial treatment of these infections are considered inappropriate.

Publication of today’s National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence’s (NICE) updated Clinical Practice Guideline for prevention of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) recommends that, for the first time, all patients admitted to hospital are risk assessed for VTE and appropriate measures taken.
